What to do in Cap de Creus? 4 essential routes and activities

The Cap de Creus Natural Park is a natural reserve of great biological wealth that is located in the easternmost point of the Iberian Peninsula. It is the first maritime-terrestrial natural park in the country -protected since 1998- and only 28 kilometers separate it from Camping Mas Nou.

It is, therefore, one of the visits to our surroundings that we recommend the most if you are staying with us. It comprises some 11,000 hectares of land and 3,000 hectares of the sea that surrounds it. Its extension encompasses the municipalities of Cadaqués, Roses, Llançà, Port de la Selva, Palau-saverdera, Pau, Selva de Mar and Vilajuïga.

The Park has fifteen circular routes of easy difficulty that will allow you to delve into the nature and culture of the area, quietly enjoying the landscape. If you are passionate about the sea you can also practice scuba diving and other water sports.

These are the 4 essential routes and activities that we recommend.

1. Visit to the Cap de Creus Lighthouse

We place the Cap de Creus Lighthouse at number 1 because it is undoubtedly one of the most iconic points (if not the most!) in the entire Park. The lighthouse, built in 1853, offers beautiful views of the surroundings and is where the Park’s information office is located. It can be accessed by car.

2. Old path from Cadaqués to Cap de Creus

It is one of the most complete routes that can be done. Along 15 kilometers (about 4 hours long) it will take you to visit places of interest as emblematic as the old town of Cadaqués, the Salvador Dalí House-Museum, the already mentioned Lighthouse and the Sant Pere de Rodes Monastery.

3. Snorkeling and Diving in Cap de Creus

Did you know that in Cap de Creus you can find red coral? This coral, almost exclusive to the Mediterranean Sea, can be admired near islands, capes and gulfs in the area. Some fauna to be found: lobsters, lobsters, breams, groupers, salps and red heads, among others.

4. Place of Tudela

This walk is short: 2.5 kilometers if you go all the way. However, you will be able to admire rock formations and crystal clear waters and take photos of those that break the internet. Salvador Dalí was inspired by these rocks for some of his paintings! In addition, you will arrive at Cala Culip where you can bathe and cool off.

Bonus: Stroll through Cap Norfeu

If you’re left longing for more, we also recommend you visit Torre Norfeu, the ruined tower that presides over the beautiful views of the coves that are in the two kilometers of headland that jut out into the sea.
