Camping refrigerators are a great ally for keeping your food cool during your summer vacation. There are different types of refrigerator, each with its own characteristics that will make it more or less suitable for you depending on the utility you want to give it.
Isothermal refrigerator
They are the most popular portable refrigerators. They are usually small and light so they can be transported easily, as well as being very competitively priced.
The disadvantage is that they do not generate cold, but their function is to maintain the indoor temperature as much as possible. Therefore, it is very common to have to put ice or some kind of cold storage.
Thermoelectric refrigerator without compressor
This type of refrigerator works with the Peltier cooling method. It basically removes heat from food and drink from the inside of the refrigerator and expels it to the outside using a fan.
In other words, it does not have the capacity to generate cold, but it can lower the temperature by up to 20º with respect to room temperature. This refrigerator needs to be plugged in, for example in the car or in a camping plug.
Refrigerator with compressor
A refrigerator with a compressor is similar to the traditional refrigerators we can have at home, with the difference in size. Its function is to cool and even freeze food.
Having this capacity, they are more expensive refrigerators than those mentioned above.
Trivalent refrigerator
This is a refrigerator that runs on a small motor. These refrigerators work with chemical reactions. They are called trivalent because they have 3 different forms of power supply: 12V for the car, 220V for a normal current, and finally they can be operated by butane and propane.
It is precisely this gas operation that makes them ideal for caravans, motorhomes and camper vans.
Conclusions
Depending on the type of outing you want to do at the campsite, a few days or a few weeks, and the type of accommodation you have (caravan, van, tent…) you will be more careful to use one type of refrigerator or another. .
For short and punctual outings, the isothermal refrigerator is an easy and economical solution for your getaways.
However, if you plan to leave for many days, it is best to use a refrigerator with a compressor or a trivalent one.
