August is approaching and the vast majority of motorhome and campervan travellers are getting ready for their summer holidays. For some, the urge to go out is very strong due to the restrictions of the pandemic. Fortunately, the vaccination campaign opens up many possibilities for those who need to venture abroad. So we have asked ourselves:
Is it possible to travel to a foreign destination in the current situation?
On 1st of July, the digital green certificate, better known as the Covid Passport, came into force, a very practical and – in some European countries – indispensable tool for crossing the border.
The Covid Passport is agreed by 27 EU countries and allows its bearer access to the states of the Schengen area. This document is not compulsory but it is very useful, it makes border control procedures much easier, avoiding the need to fill out heavy forms or undergo an antigen test. Oh, and it is also free :-).
Conditions for obtaining the certificate
- Successful completion of the vaccination course (Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca or Janssen). If you have passed the disease and received a single dose, it is equivalent to having completed the full course.
Note: For the vaccination cycle to be complete, more than 15 days must have elapsed since the last dose. Successful completion of the vaccination course (Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca or Janssen). If you have passed the disease and received a single dose, it is equivalent to having completed the full course.
2. The passport also considers those who have overcome the disease within 180 days of testing positive as fit to travel. If the period is longer, a vaccination dose or a negative PCR is required.
3. Through a PCR or a negative antigen test showing that the carrier is not infected. In this case, the validity is 72 hours in the case of a PCR and 48 hours in the case of an antigen test.
How do I apply for it?
Those responsible for managing and issuing the Covid Passport are the health authorities of each autonomous community, specifically their departments.
Type of certificates
The Covid certificate is generally digital, by means of a document that can be downloaded to your mobile phone. We recommend processing it exclusively through the official websites of the health department or the Ministry of Health to avoid cases of fraudulent applications.
If you wish, you can obtain a printed version of the Covid Passport. In both cases, we will have a QR code with all the relevant information about the person.
