Ecomuseum-Farinera in Castelló d’Empúries

There are many elements that characterise and make the town of Castelló d’Empúries unique, one of the most important being without doubt its historical heritage. This has been preserved to this day and can be seen, for example, in the Basilica of Santa Maria, the walls, monuments and museums. One of them we look at today: the Ecomuseum-Farinera.

It is an old flour factory from the end of the 19th century, built on top of a medieval flour mill. The canal that crosses the village was responsible for supplying it with energy and water for its activity.

The museum, which is part of the Science and Technology Museum System of Catalonia, concentrates the history of the town through its craft and industrial activities.

The visit will allow you to learn, through audiovisuals and interactive panels, about the process of manufacturing flour and cleaning corn. In addition, you will learn about the different types of bread, corn and flour.

Another interesting section of the museum is its Empordana’t exhibition, dedicated to the four protected natural areas of the Empordà: the Medes Islands, the Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, the Albera and Cap de Creus.

Enjoy your visit by learning all the secrets of flour.
